The veteran TV and radio presenter has given Peter Foott’s comedy his seal of approval ahead of its Irish cinema release on September 16th.
He describes the Cork-based film as, "A classic movie double act is born! It captures everything that makes Ireland so special - it's very funny, outrageous, and full of heart. Sell all your cocaine and buy a ticket to see this film!"
Inspired by the true story of Ireland’s biggest cocaine seizure in 2007, The Young Offenders is a comedy road movie about best friends Conor and Jock, two inner-city teenagers from Cork. When a drug-trafficking boat capsizes off the coast of West Cork and 61 bales of cocaine, each worth €7m are seized, word gets out that there’s a bale missing. The boys steal two bikes and go on a road trip to find bale 62 but not everything goes to plan.
Foott’s debut feature stars Cork natives Chris Walley and Alex Murphy as well as well-known comedians PJ Gallagher (Naked Camera) and Hilary Rose (The Republic of Telly).
Since its world premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh last month where it picked up the Best Irish Film award it has been receiving praise from critics and audiences alike.
The film will have a Cork premiere on August 24th, and a Dublin premiere on September 8th. It is set to open across the Republic of Ireland on Friday 16th September with previews on the 10th and 11th September, and will be the widest release of any Irish film so far this year.
