The IFTA nominated filmmaker is set to direct his debut feature film, following success with award-winning shorts such as ‘Skunky Dog (2014) and Today (2015).
Edwina Forkin and Deirdre McNally of Zanzibar Films are set to produce. The team are also behind Sanctuary, winner of Best Feature at Galway Film Fleadh this year and Swansong, which garnered IFTA nominations in 2011 with Martin McCann winning his first IFTA for the lead performance.
Shooting is expected to take place in Dublin in the coming months, with an Irish cast and crew being announced shortly.
Tristan Heanue who is best known for ‘Cardboard Gangsters’ and ‘In View’ is set to take the lead role as David Connolly, a conflicted member of the Garda Síochána. Connolly must navigate between his loyalty to the law and his involvement with his ex-convict brother Joe.
On what audiences can expect of his debut feature, Slattery states:
“This film has conflicted but realistic characters and colourful dialogue with a few confrontational situations and adult humour thrown in for good measure. I guess it’s the kind of film I hope will draw groups of friends out to the cinemas for a good evening’s entertainment. I’m not trying to re-write the rules of narrative structure or pioneer a new formula for cinema literacy with this film. That’ll be my follow up feature.”
A crowd-funding campaign is currently live on Indiegogo in order to move the project to the next stage, with the team appealing to those with an interest in supporting the arts to support the project.
