In its time in Ireland, ‘Penny Dreadful’ not only showcased the abundance of Irish talent from crew to extras, but our wealth of rural and urban locations.
But a handful of locations used in Ireland in the three series, which ran from 2014-2016 include the Iveagh Gardens, Dublin Castle and Dame Street. Series creator John Logan also utilised the cobbled streets and Georgian buildings of the city centre in building the world of the gothic drama.
The series also benefited from Ardmore Studios in Bray, Co. Wicklow, which is a hub for international projects in both film and drama. These projects make use of Ireland’s impressive Section 481 agreement, sound infrastructure and growing reputation for quality talent.
Starring internationally acclaimed talents Eva Green, Reeve Carney, Josh Hartnett and Timothy Dalton, the series has cumulated nominations and awards across BAFTA, the Emmys, the IFTAs and many more.
