It’s an interesting year for Hot Drop Films – they recently optioned 2016 Galway Film Fleadh Pitching Award Winner ‘Edges’ written by Janet Hayes.
The script is a comedy-drama, that tells the tale of a terminally ill woman who moves to a secluded clifftop cottage to die, only to discover it is the local suicide spot; she now must teach a ragtag group of damaged souls how to live.
Janet Hayes is an up-and-coming talent on the Irish writing landscape. She is a graduate of the MA in Screenwriting programme at the Huston School, NUIG, a writer /creator of the recent Storyland entry ‘Quinn & O’Grady’ and is currently part of the ‘Fair City’ training scheme.
Hot Drop Films principals Shane Perez and Alan Keane are delighted with the ‘Edges’ win and consider it a terrific first step on the road to the big screen. Despite the difficult subject matter at the heart of the material, they see ‘Edges’ very much as "a comedy-drama with a warm and universally appealing story and a powerful message about the preciousness of life.” In the coming months, Hot Drop will be looking to get the script out to top-flight talent to fill out the diverse ensemble cast.
‘Edges’ is one of several projects the company is involved with, across the development of several animation series (one of which ‘The Oddbods Show’ is currently airing on CITV), and live action features. More news to follow.
