‘Sing Street’ releases on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD and On Demand today
26 Jul 2016 : Katie McNeice
Director John Carney
The acclaimed Irish musical drama directed by John Carney releases on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD and On Demand today, from Anchor Entertainment.

With a box office gross of approximately $8.2M, the feature from the Oscar-nominated Carney has earned the Irish talents involved a host of award wins and nominations already in 2016.

This includes eight IFTA nominations at home, with Jack Reynor taking home the award for Best Supporting Actor Film. Post production on the title which was carried out by Screen Scene shows the wealth of Ireland as a shooting location, as modern-day Dublin is seamlessly adapted to build the world of the 80s music scene.

Following an initial box office release in March of this year, the Weinstein company rereleased the film in US cinemas on July 4th, following its initial success. Harvey Weistein says of Carney’s musically-oriented work, “Not since John Hughes has this been done so well on screen.”

In the following behind-the-scenes footage Carney praises young talents Ferdia Walsh-Peelo and Lucy Boynton, admitting that if he decided early on that if he didn’t secure the right male lead, he simply wouldn’t have made the film. Walsh-Peelo was present from the very first audition, showing a steady level of improvement throughout the process. Carney also describes Boynton’s audition tape as a “eureka moment”, further praising the chemistry between the young actors.
