'Robot Wars' reboot a hit for Irish presenters

Dara O'Briain and Angela Scanlon
Irish talents Dara O'Briain and Angela Scanlon present the latest six-part installment of the 90s TV series, with a fresh perspective on the original BBC show.

Scanlon has stated she is not intimidated by the public’s loyalty to previous presenters Charles and Forrester, as both herself and her co-presenter O'Briain accepted the roles due to a genuine interest in the content, and for the purpose of bringing something new to the table.

Having previously aired from 1998 to 2003, the latest instalment aired last Sunday on BBC2 to grab 10% of the viewers and enjoyed an immediately positive reaction on social media.

Interest in the revamped series is largely based on audience curiosity regarding the influence of technological advances in recent years. This is in fact a selling point of the new series, with creators promising the robots battling in the arena to be more advanced than ever.

Despite new faces the show remains faithful to its famous format, which sees teams of engineers battling each other's robots in the Robot Wars arena.

On the success of the first episode, BBC Commissioning Editor Jo Street has stated they are “delighted” with the public’s reaction.
