The Dublin native is to reprise his leading role as Ross Poldark in the third season of BBC series ‘Poldark’.
Turner received the Best Breakthrough Award at the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards for his portrayal of the American Revolutionary War hero, with the series itself picking up the Audience Award at this year’s BAFTA.
The latest installment of the Cornwall-based drama will air in 2017, with writer Debbie Horsfield also confirmed to reprise her role by production company Mammoth.
Executive Producer Elizabeth Kilgariff stated, "It's a testament to Debbie's brilliant storytelling and the passion of the Mammoth team that Poldark will be returning for a third series, with yet more twists and turns for these much-loved characters.”
The first series garnered impressive audience numbers of 9.4 million across TV and iPlayer. Mammoth Screen Managing Director Damien Timmer states: “Winston Graham and Debbie Horsfield's extraordinary flair for storytelling means the saga of Ross, his friends and enemies will go to even more thrilling places!"
The 33-year old Aidan Turner is also known for playing Kili in the ‘Hobbit’ franchise, directed by Peter Jackson. He has also been widely speculated to take over the portrayal of iconic spy James Bond from English actor Daniel Craig, though ‘Happy Valley’ actor James Norton is also a contender.
