The Element produced show on TV3 is confirmed for 'Doctors' lunchtime slot on BBC One.

Award-winning Irish drama Red Rock will make its debut on British TV next week when it airs on BBC One on Monday 11th July at 1.45pm.

Set around a busy police precinct in a fictional seaside town just outside of Dublin, Red Rock follows the Hennessys and the Kielys, two local warring families and the police that come between them. When a bloodied and lifeless body is found on the pier, a longstanding dormant feud between the two families is brutally reignited.

Commissioned by TV3, the show is executive produced by Ed Guiney of Element Pictures and John Yorke of Angel Station (previously Company Pictures). The compelling drama has been a whirlwind success for TV3, part of the Virgin Media Group and was acquired by the BBC via All3Media International. Since launching in January 2015, the series has also been sold to Amazon Prime in the US and has won critical acclaim as well as numerous awards at the prestigious IFTA Awards.

Speaking ahead of its launch in the UK, Dan McGolpin, Controller of BBC Daytime, said: “Daytime viewers are in for a treat with ‘Red Rock’. It's a compelling new police drama set in Ireland, it has plenty of twists and turns, and we’re looking forward to seeing how it’s received by our viewers.”

The drama’s imminent arrival in the UK is a proud moment for TV3, who took a huge risk with a brand new home-grown drama.

Pat Kiely, TV3 Group Managing Director, said: “This is a significant milestone for TV3 Group as our flagship drama launches onto BBC One. In a short period of time, ‘Red Rock’ has already become one of Ireland’s most successful television exports. Since launching the series eighteen months ago we have seen it go from strength to strength, captivating audiences at home and abroad. We hope BBC viewers love it as much as TV3 viewers have to date.”

John Yorke, Executive Producer of Red Rock said: “It is a proud moment for both Ed Guiney and I to see ‘Red Rock’ flourish. We’re particularly thankful to TV3 who showed great courage taking the plunge with a new Irish drama and we look forward to seeing how it’s received in the UK.”

Written and created by Peter McKenna (The Musketeers, The Living And The Dead, EastEnders, Casualty, Holby City) and directed by Matt Carter (Holby City), Rob and Ronan Burke (Roy) and others, Red Rock works with over 30 script writers, including well-known names such as Kim Revill (Eastenders), Tim Loane (Minder/Teachers) and Tom Needham (Casualty).

Its impressive cast list includes Richard Flood (Killing Kennedy), Andrea Irvine (The Boxer, Evelyn, Ella Enchanted), Cathy Belton (Philomena, Roy, The Tiger’s Tale), Denise McCormack (1,000 Times Goodnight), Liam Carney (Gangs Of New York, Braveheart), Paul Roe (Veronica Guerin) and Jane McGrath (Game Of Thrones).

‘Red Rock’ airs Monday (11th July) 1.45pm on BBC One
