Communicorp Seeks Abolition of Levy paid to BAI
27 Jun 2016 :
The radio group is seeking the abolition of a €4.9 million annual levy paid by radio and television stations to fund the BAI.

As reported by Samantha McCaughren in the Sunday Times obtained under FOI, Communicorp supports a plan to access the customer databases of Sky and Virgin Media to dramatically improve television licence fee collections (increasing potential fee income by €25m).

In a presentation made by Communicorp to the BAI, the radio group also criticised the BAI Sound and Vision schedule, claiming the process is too onerous for radio projects, which receive far less than television programming which receives tens or hundreds of thousands of euros.
