‘An Klondike’
IFTA-winning drama series ‘An Klondike’ has begun shooting its’ second season in Galway this week.

The acclaimed series, produced by Pierce Boyce and Abú Media, was recently nominated for nine IFTA Film & Drama Awards, more than any other project in 2016. It won four on the night, including Best Drama Series, Best Actor for Dara Devaney, Best Script Drama for Marcus Fleming and Best Make Up & Hair for Stephanie Smith and Ailbhe Fitzpatrick.

The series is now shooting once again in Glengowla mines outside Oughterard in Co. Galway, which doubles up as Dominion Creek in Alaska during the Klondike gold rush of the 1890’s. Production Designer of the first season Padraig O’Neill (who received an IFTA nomination for his work) and his team spent months researching and designing each building that makes up the town with the series production values being singled out for particular praise after the series aired on TG4 late last year.

Check out our interviews with ‘Dominion Creek’ lead actors Dara Devaney, Owen McDonnell and Sean T O Meallaigh here and director Dathaí Keane here.

The series was created by Dathaí Keane (who also directs), written by Marcus Fleming and stars Dara Devaney, Owen McDonnell and Sean T Ó Meallaigh as three Irish brothers who journey from the silver mines of Montana to the Klondike Valley in the hope of striking it rich. They seek their fortune in Dominion Creek, a town built on greed. It is shot mostly in the Irish language but also incorporates English into the series with Dominion Creek also housing a lot of non-Irish people.

The series has received acclaim and was later acquired by Content Media who sold it to Netflix UK, where it was made available to stream under the title ‘Dominion Creek’.
