Grand Pictures are currently in development of an adaptation of Flann O’Brien’s ‘The Dead Spit Of Kelly’, with the film expected to start shooting in late 2017.

Michael Garland of Grand Pictures will produce along with UK producer Sarah Curtis, whose previous credits include ‘The Awakening’.

Speaking to ScreenDaily, Garland said: “It’s a very unusual story. We’ll be looking to use the Irish tax incentive (S481) and will also apply to the Irish Film Board (IFB). Sarah will handle the UK elements.”

The script was written by late Irish writer Johnny Ferguson, who passed away in 2013. Ferguson also wrote Jim Sheridan’s ‘The Secret Scripture’, which is currently in post-production.

A director for the project is currently being sourced with casting and financing also underway; the film is projected to start filming in late 2017.

Other productions on Grand’s slate include Syrian-set drama ‘Stolen’, a true life story based on Louise Monaghan’s book Stolen: Escape From Syria. The film is written and will be directed by Lisa Mulcahy, who last year won an IFTA Award for her direction of Irish continuing drama ‘Red Rock’. She also saw the release of her feature film ‘The Legend Of Longwood’ to Irish cinemas.

Garland also last week presented Ian Fitzgibbon’s ‘Dark Lies The Island’ at the Paris Co-Production Village; one of only 12 titles to be presented this year.
