Irish films ‘Love & Friendship’, ‘The Lobster’, ‘Sing Street’ continue to perform strongly in the US
31 May 2016 : Seán Brosnan
‘Love & Friendship’, ‘The Lobster’ and ‘Sing Street’ are still captivating audiences in the US
Irish films ‘The Lobster’ and ‘Love & Friendship’, both released earlier this month in the US and topping the Specialty (Independent) box office in their first week, are still performing very strongly in the US after both were expanded to more theatres while ‘Sing Street’ continues to bring in audiences after seven weeks on release.

Whit Stillman and Blinder Films period drama ‘Love & Friendship’ had a very strong weekend at the Box Office, bringing in almost $2.5M in just 493 theatres, with a $5,062 per theatre average. This means that the acclaimed comedy of manners has so far grossed $3,489,548 in the US alone.

Check out our interview with ‘Love & Friendship’ writer/director Whit Stillman here.

Yorgos Lanthimos and Element Pictures surrealist drama ‘The Lobster’, which opened at the top of the Specialty Box Office earlier this month recording the best per theatre average of any film in the US so far in 2016, expanded to 92 additional theatres and brought in over $725K in 116 theatres, giving it a solid $6,251 average. This means that the film has an accumulated box office score of $2,160,641 in the States.

Also continuing to perform strongly in the US is John Carney’s acclaimed musical drama ‘Sing Street’, which has been on release over there since April 15th. It is still showing in 175 cinemas and has brought in $2,764,474 so far.
