New 180,000 sq ft Film Studio reportedly planned for Dublinís South Docklands
25 May 2016 : SeŠn Brosnan
If the deal goes ahead, itís believed this new studio could create 3,000 jobs
A new Hollywood backed Film Studio, which will be located in the former Irish Glass Bottle site at Ringsend, is reportedly in the advanced stage of development.

The plan is being spearheaded by ĎBrooklyní producer Alan Moloney and James Morris, the Windmill Lane Studios founder who recently stepped down after 35 years. U2 frontman Bono is also an advocate of the project, according to The Irish Times. If the plan goes ahead, it is believed that over 3,000 jobs would be created. The Ringsend site would apparently be able to hold over 180,000 square feet of studio space, despite plans being in motion for 3,000 homes to be constructed nearby also.

The news of this new studio comes after a year of hot debate in the industry about the lack of infrastructure to compliment the governmentís broadening of the Section 481 initiative.

Also announced at Cannes last week were the plans for a new 64,000 square foot Belfast Harbour film studios while plans are also progressing in Limerick with the 70,000 square foot Troy Studios.
