Irish actor Jonathan Rhys-Meyers has been cast in Harold Zwart’s WWII film ‘The 12th Man’.
The film, produced by Nordisk Film and written by Petter Skavlan, chronicles the journey of Baalsrud, who was the only one out of 12 resistance fighters, to escape the Germans following a failed raid at Bardufoss in 1943.
Rhys-Meyers will star as the German lead Kurt Stage, according to Variety. Speaking about his role, the actor said: “This has been a shared passion project of Harald and Veslemoey and I am honored to be taking part in this great Norwegian adventure.”
Aside from being cast in a large yet unspecified role in the new season of the Irish shot series ‘Vikings’, Rhys Meyers has recently completed work on thriller ‘Damascus Cover’ as well as an upcoming ‘Roots’ remake. He is also slated to star as Padraig Pearse in Colin Broderick and Kevin McCann’s planned 1916 film ‘The Rising’ alongside Colin Morgan, Fiona Shaw and Brendan Coyle.
