Irish documentary ‘The Land of the Enlightened’ has been selected for the American Film Institute’s annual AFI Docs, which takes place June 22-26.
AFI Docs is America’s premier documentary film festival known for showcasing the best in documentary filmmaking from the US and around the world.
‘The Land of the Enlightened’ has already had a very fruitful festival run, screening at Sundance (where it won an award for cinematography), Rotterdam and Hot Docs. It has also been selected for Sheffield Doc/Fest next month and will be selling at Cannes (starting tomorrow).
‘The Land of the Enlightened’ which was produced by Irish producer Morgan Bushe for Fastnet Films, charts the complex Afghani war economy told through the eyes of the children who have found themselves caught up in the on-going American occupation. The film is an Irish/Dutch/German/Belgian co-production and been acclaimed by major US publications such as Screen International who described the film as “hypnotic, playful and chillingly austere”.
