New four-part Northern Irish drama series ‘The Secret’ starring James Nesbitt (‘Lucky Man’) and Genevieve O’Reilly (‘The Honourable Woman’) will air on Friday, April 29th at 9pm.
‘The Secret’ is based on the true story of a Sunday school teacher and a respectable dentist who formed a murderous partnership.
The series filmed in Northern Ireland and was produced by Hat Trick Productions with funding from Northern Ireland Screen supported by Invest NI.
Hazel Buchanan (O’Reilly) and Colin Howell (Nesbitt) meet at their local Baptist Church in Coleraine and embark upon a passionate and destructive affair, which climaxes in an elaborate plot to commit the “perfect murder” to kill both their partners and make it look like a suicide pact.
‘The Secret’, adapted by Stuart Urban from the book Let This Be Our Secret by Deric Henderson, is directed by Nick Murphy with a cast that includes Laura Pyper (‘Luther’) , Glen Wallace (‘Eastenders’), Jason Watkins (‘W1A’) and Stuart Graham (‘Thirteen’).
Mark Redhead, Executive Producer, Hat Trick Productions said: “At its heart ‘The Secret’ is a story of a love affair that starts discreetly in a church environment, and turns into a passionate and sexual adventure that leads to murder and then a bitter aftermath. It ultimately climaxes in the two central characters in the love affair turning on each other. That’s a huge journey that unfolds over eighteen years.”
