Irish actor Cillian Murphy has been cast in Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated WWII drama ‘Dunkirk’.
This will mark Murphy’s fifth collaboration with Nolan after portraying arch villain The Scarecrow in ‘Batman Begins’ and subsequently reprising the role for small parts in ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘The Dark Knight Rises’. Murphy also starred in Nolan’s ‘Inception’ opposite Leonardo Di Caprio.
‘Dunkirk’ tells the story of the Dunkirk evacuation at the beginning of World War II where 300,000 British soldiers were rescued from advancing Nazi forces on the beaches of Dunkirk, France.
Also cast in the film is Northern Irish actor Kenneth Branagh (‘Wallander’), recent Oscar winner Mark Rylance (‘Bridge of Spies’) and Tom Hardy (‘The Revenant’).
Murphy is currently working on the third season of British drama series ‘Peaky Blinders’ and upcoming film projects of his include Ben Wheatley’s ‘Free Fire’ which will co-star Oscar winner Brie Larson (‘Room’) as well as fellow Irish actors Jack Reynor, Patrick Bergin and Michael Smiley.
