Yet another project in the pipeline for Lenny Abrahamson and Element Pictures as Neal Bascomb’s novel ‘The Grand Escape’ has been optioned by Film4 and Element.
The book tells the true story of three daredevil World War I pilots being held in Germany’s most infamous POW camp. The story chronicles WWI’s greatest mass POW escape, and the pilots’ subsequent flight to freedom. The novel – which will be published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt – is still being written by Bascomb, according to Variety.
‘Room’ - Lenny and Element’s most recent film – was nominated for four Oscars last month including Best Film and Best Director for Abrahamson with Brie Larson winning Best Actress. The film is also currently nominated for eight IFTA Awards (taking place April 9) including Best Film and Best Director once again.
Other projects in the pipeline for Abrahamson and Element include a biopic on the life of boxer Emile Griffith entitled ‘A Man’s World’ as well as an adaptation of Laird Hunt’s acclaimed novel ‘Neverhome’.
