Roads Entertainment are currently developing a new feature written by ‘Viva’ scribe Mark O’Halloran.

‘Trade’ tells the story of a young man searching for stability in the wake of his father’s death. The film is expected to shoot later in the year and is supported by the Irish Film Board and Roads’ facility Portico Development Fund. Hong Khao, the BAFTA nominated director of ‘Lilting’, will direct, according to ScreenDaily.

O’Halloran has recently written ‘Viva’ which was directed by Paddy Breathnach and was shortlisted for the 2016 Foreign Language Oscar. The writer/actor also wrote Lenny Abrahamson’s ‘Garage’ as well as writing and starring in Abrahamson’s debut feature ‘Adam and Paul’.

Alan Maher’s Roads Entertainment, who last year produced acclaimed sports documentary ‘Being AP’, are also in pre-production of ‘Song of Granite’, which will be directed by Pat Collins (‘Silence’, 1916: The Irish Rebellion’). The Irish-Canadian co-production, about Sean-Nos singer Joe Heaney, is scheduled to shoot this spring in Ireland and Montreal. The film was also developed by the IFB and Portico.

Another film in development for Roads (in partnership with US company Blumhouse Entertainment) is Ciarán Foy’s ‘The Shee’, which IFTN first reported on last summer.

‘The Shee’, described as an atmospheric story set in early 1960's Ireland, is the story of a troubled young woman who must confront her violent and tragic past when she travels to a remote island.
