The latest Irish Film Board Catalyst Project ‘The Drummer & The Goalkeeper’, written and directed by Nick Kelly, begins production this week.
The film is the directorial debut of Nick Kelly, whose short film ‘Shoe’ was nominated for an Academy Award. It is produced by Kate McColgan for Calico Pictures with support from the Irish Film Board and will shoot in and around Dublin for four weeks with locations including rock venue Whelan’s on Camden Street.
‘The Drummer & The Goalkeeper’ is a comedic story about an unlikely friendship between a 25 year old drummer with bipolar disorder who revels in rejecting society’s rules and an institutionalized 17- year-old goalkeeper who suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome and yearns to fit in.
The film stars an ensemble of young Irish actors including Dermot Murphy (‘Clean Break’, ‘Raw’) and Charlie Kelly (‘The Secret Scripture’, ‘Jadotville’) and introduces Jacob McCarthy. Established talent includes ‘Love/Hate actors Peter Coonan and Aoibhinn McGinnity as well as Annie Ryan (‘Laws of Attraction’).
This is the second film to be fully funded by the IFB through their Catalyst project, with the first film – Lorcan Finnegan’s ‘Without Name’ is currently in post-production.
