Crackit Productions ob-doc series ‘Stop Search Seize’ on Sky 1 a hit with viewers in Ireland
12 Jan 2016 : Seán Brosnan
The observational documentary ‘Stop Search Seize’ has been a success with Sky 1 viewers in Ireland, with double the amount of people tuning into watch the show compared to the average viewership for Sky 1’s Monday 10pm time slot.

The programme has showcased the diligent work of the Customs teams in Ireland which have foiled attempts to smuggle a wide range of contraband into the country, from guns and knives in suitcases, to millions worth of cigarettes in shipping containers, drugs hidden in consignments of hair wigs, and the discovery of a haul of suspected drugs that could have a combined street value of approximately three quarters of a million euros (750,000).

The Series Producer on the show was Dara Tallon while Aileen McCracken served as Series Editor and Lisa Gallagher served as Line Producer.

The series was produced entirely in the Republic of Ireland, with post-production in Dublin’s Windmill Lane Pictures, creating 40 jobs in the area. Editors on the series included James Hourihane, Roisin O'Donnell, Joe McElwaine, Stephen Vickers and Alistair Mayes.

Each of the 20 hour-long episodes offers Sky 1 audiences a view of what it takes to monitor and protect Ireland’s 3,000km of rugged coastline. The team secured unprecedented access to Customs across Ireland in multiple locations, including Dublin Airport, Cork Airport, Shannon Airport, Cork Port, Dublin Port and the Border with Northern Ireland. The programme has also secured access to joint operations between Customs and An Garda Siochana to enable the series to explore the repercussions of stories beyond the border itself.

Speaking about the success of the series Elaine Hackett, Creative Director of Crackit Productions said: “We’re thrilled that the series not only provided employment opportunities in Ireland, it has also been very successful and highly acclaimed. It’s a huge credit to the men and women in Customs that viewers are watching and appreciate what they do in their day-to-day jobs to keep us safe. The response from Sky has been overwhelming. Viewers have been enthralled by the hard work, professionalism and dedication demonstrated by the Irish Customs team. Those men and women featured in the series do a tremendous job keeping the public safe and protecting Ireland’s borders.”

The next episode of ‘Stop, Search, Seize’ airs on Tuesday 12th January 2016 at 10pm on Sky 1, where a sniffer dog discovers drugs in the post office and three million illegal cigarettes are uncovered in Dublin Port.
