The sixth season of Northern Irish shot series ‘Game of Thrones’ has been handed a premiere date of April 24th on HBO in the US.

‘Game of Thrones’ is an original series based on George R.R. Martin's best-selling 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series. ‘Game of Thrones’ films on location across Northern Ireland and in Titanic Studios in Belfast and the Linen Mill Film Studios in Banbridge. The show receives funding from Northern Ireland Screen supported by Invest NI.

The show broke the record at the Primetime Emmys last year by picking up 12 awards including Best Drama and there were also wins for Production Mixer Ronan Hill for Outstanding Sound Mixing (his second win) and Casting Director Carla Stronge for Outstanding Casting. The series is also nominated for Best Drama at this year’s Golden Globes which are held on Sunday, January 10th.

Details are scarce about the plot of the sixth season but it is expected to pick up exactly where season five left off, which showed main character Jon Snow (Kit Harington) getting slain by The Watch.
