Rebecca Daly’s ‘Mammal’ is yet to screen at Sundance but it has already been picked up for international sales.
Berlin-based distribution company Picture Tree International has acquired the Irish film, which will have its world premiere in the World Dramatic competition section at the Sundance Film Festival (Jan 21-31).
‘Mammal’, directed by Rebecca Daly, centres on a woman who has lost her son and develops an unorthodox relationship with a homeless youth. Their tentative trust is threatened by his involvement with a violent gang and the escalation of her ex-husband's grieving rage.
The film stars Oscar nominated and Golden Globe winning actress Rachel Griffiths (‘Six Feet Under’, ‘Muriel’s Wedding’) as well as Barry Keoghan (‘Love/Hate, ‘71’), Michael McElhatton (‘Game of Thrones’) and Johnny Ward (‘Love/Hate’).
Written by Daly and Glenn Montgomery, ‘Mammal’ was selected as part of the first Berlinale Residency, a programme organised by the Berlin International Film Festival to support writer/directors develop their new projects. Daly’s debut feature ‘The Other Side of Sleep’ premiered at the Cannes Film Festival Directors Fortnight.
‘Mammal’ will be released to Irish cinemas sometime in 2016, being distributed by Wildcard.
