Irish actor Andrew Scott to star opposite Rachel Weisz in legal drama ‘Denial’

Irish actor Andrew Scott has joined the cast of legal drama ‘Denial’ opposite ‘The Lobster’ actress Rachel Weisz.

The film commenced its’ London shoot this week and has been picked up by Bleecker Street for North American Distribution.

The film is being directed by Mick Jackson, who previously directed ‘Temple Grandin’ and ‘The Bodyguard’ - and produced by Gary Foster and Russ Krasnoff for Krasnoff/Foster Entertainment. Guy Heeley and Paul Webster are executive producers for Shoebox Films, and Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King are executive producers for Participant Media.

Two-time Oscar nominated screen-writer David Hare (‘The Hours’, ‘The Reader’) adapted the screenplay from Deborah E. Lipstadt’s book “History on Trial: My Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier” which tells the story of Lipstadt’s legal battle for historical truth against David Irving, who accused her of libel when she declared him a Holocaust Denier. Other actors cast include Tom Wilkinson and Timothy Spall.

Andrew Scott can currently be seen in ‘Victor Frankenstein’ opposite James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe as well as in James Bond film ‘Spectre’ which has so far took in over $700m worldwide. The actor last year won a BIFA Award for his performance in British film ‘Pride’ as well as picking up two nominations at this year’s IFTA Film & Drama Awards – for his supporting role in ‘Pride’ and for his villainous turn as the menacing Moriarty in BBC’s ‘Sherlock’.

He has also just finished shooting John Butler’s ‘Handsome Devil’ opposite Moe Dunford with that film currently in post-production.

His co-star Rachel Weisz recently starred opposite Colin Farrell in Element Pictures co-production ‘The Lobster’ which was directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and won the Jury Prize at Cannes earlier this year. She is also attached to star in Yorgos Lanthimos’ next film ‘The Favourite’ which will be once again produced by Element Pictures.
