Saoirse Ronan is nominated for her performance in 'Brooklyn' while Michael Fassbender receives nod for 'Steve Jobs'
Nominees for the 22nd Screen Actors Guild Awards have been announced with Irish actors Michael Fassbender and Saoirse Ronan both picking up nominations.

Also of Irish interest is the two nominations for Lenny Abrahamson’s ‘Room’ – with Brie Larson nominated for Best Actress in a Film and Jacob Tremblay nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Film. Fantasy series ‘Game of Thrones’ – shot in Titanic Studios in Belfast – has also been nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series (with the cast including Irish actors Aidan Gillen and Liam Cunningham) as well as Best Supporting Actor (Peter Dinklage) and Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Comedy or Drama Series.

Michael Fassbender – seen as an Oscar front-runner by many publications for his titular performance in Danny Boyle’s biopic ‘Steve Jobs’ – has been nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role alongside Bryan Cranston (‘Trumbo’), Johnny Depp (‘Black Mass’), Leonardo DiCaprio (‘The Revenant’) and Eddie Redmayne (‘The Danish Girl’).

Saoirse Ronan has also been widely tipped for an Oscar nomination for her performance in ‘Brooklyn’ and she is nominated alongside Cate Blanchett (‘Carol’), Helen Mirren (‘Woman in Gold’), Sarah Silverman (‘I Smile Back’) as well as ‘Room’s’ Larson.

Fassbender and Ronan are both to be honoured with International Star Awards at the Palm Springs International Film Festival next month – with Ronan also picking up a New Hollywood Award at the Hollywood Film Awards earlier this year.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards will take place on January 30, 2016.
