At the British Independent Film Awards in London last night, Irish nominees had much to celebrate.
Brendan Gleeson won Best Supporting Actor for ‘Suffragette’ (collected on his behalf by Domhnall Gleeson, who was also nominated in that category for ‘Brooklyn’).
‘Room’ won Best International Independent Film – Ed Guiney, Lenny Abrahamson and Jacob Tremblay collected the Award on behalf of the production team; Stephen Fingleton won the Douglas Hickox Award (Best Debut Director) for ‘The Survivalist’, and Saoirse Ronan won Best Actress for her performance in ‘Brooklyn’.
‘The Lobster’s Olivia Colman won Best Supporting Actress.
