Irish film ‘Brooklyn’ continues box-office success in Ireland and the UK

‘Brooklyn’ directed by John Crowley and starring Saoirse Ronan
Irish film ‘Brooklyn’ has continued its’ impressive showing at the box office taking in €5.6 million (£4 million) to date in Ireland and the UK.

‘Brooklyn’ is still drawing in large audiences almost three weeks after release, and will be playing on 242 screens in Ireland and the UK as of this weekend, 82 of which are on the island of Ireland.

As of Sunday, November 22nd, ‘Brooklyn’ has taken €1,888,059 in Irish takings and lies in second place at the box office, behind only ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2’.

With a rare 99% rating on RottenTomatoes.com (146 reviews, 145 positive with only one negative review), ‘Brooklyn’ has built up considerable praise in particular for the performance of its star Saoirse Ronan who is widely expected to receive an Oscar nomination when they are announced in January 2016. It was recently nominated in five categories at the British Independent Film Awards, which take place on December 6th.

‘Brooklyn’ was directed by John Crowley and was adapted by Nick Hornby from the novel by Colm Tóibín, and stars Saoirse Ronan, Domhnall Gleeson, Emory Cohen, Jim Broadbent and Julie Walters. It was produced by Finola Dwyer and Amanda Posey, with Alan Moloney as executive producer. Production companies were Parallel Films, Finola Dwyer Productions, Wildgaze Films and Item 7, with financing coming from the Irish Film Board, the BAI, RTÉ, BBC, Telefilm, SODEC and the BFI. It is distributed by Lionsgate in Ireland and the UK and Fox Searchlight in the United States.
