Documentary feature film ‘Being AP’ which follows 20-time champion jockey AP McCoy in his final season, will be released in cinemas across the UK and Ireland this Friday, 27th November and on DVD on Monday, 30th November.
The Moneyglass Films documentary was part funded by Northern Ireland Screen as part of its Landmark Documentary scheme which sought to bring unique Northern Ireland stories to a wider audience. The critical acclaimed ‘Road’ (which was nominated for an IFTA earlier this year) about the Dunlop racing dynasty was also funded through the same scheme. ‘Being AP’ also received funding from the Irish Film Board.
Directed by BAFTA-winner Anthony Wonke (‘The Tower: A Tale of Two Cities’) and produced by Alan Maher, Nick Ryle and John Woollcombe , the all-access documentary follows the 40 year-old who has notched up more than 4,300 wins, 700 falls, 40 broken bones and a BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award in 2010 across a near 25-year racing career.
‘Being AP’ premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September of this year receiving positive reviews. It was also picked up by Entertainment One for US distribution earlier this year.
The film was produced by Nick Ryle for Moneyglass Films, in partnership with Partizan Films and Roads Entertainment, and in association with BBC Films with support from The Irish Film Board, Northern Ireland Screen and the British Horse Racing Authority/Great British Racing.
