Irish cinematographer PJ Dillon has been nominated for a British Society of Cinematographers Best Cinematography Award for his work on ‘Penny Dreadful’, which films in Ardmore Studios in Bray.
Dillon is nominated for his work on the episode entitled ‘And They Were Enemies’ and faces competition from Stephen Pehrsson (‘Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell’) and Gavin Finney (‘Wolf Hall’) as well as Fabian Wagner who is nominated for his work on ‘Game of Thrones’ – which films in Titanic Studios in Northern Ireland.
Speaking to IFTN about the nomination, Dillon said: "I'm delighted to receive the nomination. I'd like say thanks to the show's Creator and Writer John Logan and to Director Brian Kirk whose creativity makes collaboration a joy. I'd also like to thank all of the Producers, especially Karen Richards whose support and good sense make the show a pleasure to work on."
It has been a good year for Dillon so far as he has received an American Society of Cinematographers Award nomination as well as an IFTA nomination for his work on ‘Vikings’ episode Blood Eagle.
Dillon has previously won three IFTA Awards for his work on Amazon drama ‘Ripper Street’ (work that also landed him a BSC nomination in 2013) and the feature films ‘The Runway’ and ‘32A’. He has also been nominated for ‘Timbuktu’, ‘Kings’, ‘An Ranger’ and ‘Game Of Thrones’, also getting a Best Film Director nomination in 2011 for ‘Rewind’.
Recent work of Dillon’s includes Irish co-production ‘Strangerland’ starring Nicole Kidman and Joseph Fiennes.
