With her performance in Irish film ‘Brooklyn’ gaining universal acclaim and a lot of awards buzz, Saoirse Ronan’s awards season kicked off early on November 1st with her winning the New Hollywood Award at the Hollywood Film Awards.

In a ceremony that also saw awards handed out to actors such as Robert De Niro, Will Smith, Joel Edgerton and Amy Schumer, Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling presented the New Hollywood Award to Ronan. Gosling had previously directed Saoirse in his 2014 surrealist film ‘Lost River’ calling the 21 year old “one of his favourite actresses”.

Her new film ‘Brooklyn’ hits cinemas in Ireland, the UK and the US on November 6th with many publications predicting the actress will receive her second Oscar nomination for her performance as a young Irish immigrant in 1950’s New York who is torn between two men and two countries.

RTÉ described her performance as “outstanding” while The Hollywood Reporter wrote that “veteran adolescent phenom Ronan works wonders with this exceptional transitional role” and The Guardian described her performance as “marvellous”.

Ronan has previously been Oscar- nominated for ‘Atonement’ – a role that also landed her a Golden Globe nomination. Closer to home and Ronan is one of Ireland’s most decorated actresses winning seven IFTA Awards for her performances in ‘Atonement’ (Best Actress and Rising Star), ‘Death Defying Acts’, ‘The Lovely Bones’, ‘The Way Back’, ‘Hanna’ and ‘Byzantium’.
