Neil Jordan, John Banville and Paul McGuinness for crime drama series ‘Riviera’
09 Jun 2015 : Seán Brosnan
Neil Jordan is set to write, direct and show-run the series
Director Neil Jordan is set to team up with writer John Banville and former U2 manager Paul McGuinness for crime drama series ‘Riviera’ - which is expected to be on screens by autumn 2016.

The plot of the series centres on a powerful business family concealing their criminal dealings whilst living in the south of France.

The idea was conceived by McGuinness with Banville (‘Albert Nobbs’, ‘The Sea’) signing on as co-writer. Jordan (‘The Borgias’, ‘The Crying Game’) is expected to write, direct and show-run the series, which, according to Deadline, will be produced by UK production company Archery Pictures.

While this is McGuinness’s first foray into scripted drama, John Banville has been nominated for IFTA Awards in 2012 and 2014 for writing ‘The Sea’ and ‘Albert Nobbs’.

Neil Jordan, an Oscar-winner for adapting ‘The Crying Game’, has also been behind films such as ‘Interview With A Vampire’, ‘The Butcher Boy’, ‘Breakfast On Pluto’, ‘Ondine’ and Byzantium’.

He was also the creator of ‘The Borgias’ which ran from 2011 to 2013 and starred Jeromy Irons, who was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2012 for his lead performance.
