Robert Sheehan cast as lead in ‘Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight’

Irish actor Robert Sheehan has been cast at the co-lead in Dustin Lance Black’s romantic drama ‘Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight’.

He will star alongside Oscar-nominee Hailee Steinfield (‘True Grit’) in the drama, which is based on the 2013 novel by Jennifer E. Smith. The film tells the story of a girl (Steinfeld) whose rotten day brightens up when she meets a young British man (Sheehan) and they are promptly seated together on a plane to England.

The film is written and directed by Oscar-winner Dustin Lance Black (who previously won a screen-writing Oscar for ‘Milk’).

Recent roles of Sheehan’s include drama ‘The Road Within’ with Dev Patel and Zoe Kravitz and horror film ‘The Messenger’ opposite IFTA-nominee Deirdre O Kane. He will also star in the upcoming blockbuster ‘Geostorm’ opposite Gerard Butler.

Saoirse Ronan to star with Annette Bening in ‘The Seagull’

Saoirse Ronan is set to star alongside Annette Bening (‘The Kids Are Alright’) in Michael Mayer’s upcoming adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s play ‘The Seagull’.

Mayer, primarily known as a Broadway director (winning a Tony in 2007 for Spring Awakening), has also directed episodes of the television series ‘Smash’. ‘The Seagull’ follows the romantic and artistic conflicts between four characters: the famous middlebrow story writer Boris Trigorin, the ingenue Nina, the fading actress Irina Arkadina, and her son the symbolist playwright Konstantin Tréplev. Corey Stoll (‘House of Cards’) and Billy Howle (‘Glue’) are also attached to star.

Ronan has had a busy year so far and her film ‘Brooklyn’ (directed by John Crowley) received very positive reviews when it premiered at Sundance. After being acquired by Fox Searchlight in a $9m deal, it is now slated for a November 6th cinema release which is widely believed to put the film in Oscar contention.

She is also currently filming ‘Loving Vincent’, which co-stars Irish actors Aidan Turner (‘Poldark’) and Chris O’ Dowd (‘Moone Boy’).

Chris O Dowd set to star alongside Julianne Moore in ‘Can You Ever Forgive Me’

Roscommon actor Chris O’Dowd is set to star alongside 2015 Oscar-winner Julianne Moore in ‘Can You Ever Forgive Me?’

Empire is reporting that Director Nicole Holofcener (‘Enough Said’) has adapted the script from Lee Israel’s 2008 memoir of the same name. The story finds Israel (Moore) as a respected biographer who runs into financial difficulties. So she starts fabricating the letters of famous dead writers and celebrities in order to drum up the money to keep a roof over her head. But when her work begins to raise suspicion, she goes one step further and starts stealing actual letters from library archives, selling them through a fence she meets at a bar. All the while, however, the FBI is closing in on the scheme. There’s no word yet on when Holofcener will start shooting the film.

2015 has so far seen the third series of O’Dowd’s ‘Moone Boy’ air on Sky One (which he also directed). He is currently filming ‘Loving Vincent’ and he is in development of ‘The Adventures of Super Frank’ which he wrote and is slated to star in.
