Irish screenwriter Brian MacEvilly has been declared the Overall Winner of this year's Nashville Film Festival International Screenwriting Competition.

The contest received 1,350 entries.

MacEvilly won for Best Comedy Feature with his screenplay ‘The Full Irish’, took second place in the Drama Feature category with his script ‘Independence Pass’ and also took second prize with his family-friendly short ‘The Home of Rock’.

‘The Full Irish’ tells the tale of a Mafia duo described as “two dyed-in-the-wool goombahs who have rarely been outside of Brooklyn” who suddenly find themselves stranded in the remote West of Ireland.

‘Independence Pass’ is described as a “hate-at-first-sight Drama/Love Story” and it has previously won the Acclaim Scripts 2014 Fall/Winter Contest.

In ‘The Home of Rock’, based on a true story, a jaded American guitar legend gets a lesson in roots music when he takes on a pair of Old Timers in an Irish country pub.

Speaking to IFTN, MacEvilly stated that he was “blown away” by the result and saluted Nashville as “a terrific festival, run by outstanding people – a mesmerising showcase of indie film and a true testament to southern hospitality”.

MacEvilly has a history of contest successes, having previously won the Atlantis Award at the Moondance Festival in New York, among others.
