Fresh Call for ILBF Drama Development Proposals
06 May 2015 : Seán Brosnan
The deadline for receipt of applications for 12 noon Friday the 29th of May
The Irish Language Broadcast Fund (ILBF) has issued a call for fresh drama ideas under its development funding scheme with a deadline for receipt of applications for 12 noon Friday the 29th of May.

Development funding is available for a new drama series (6-8 x 30’ mins or 3-4 x 50 mins) for broadcast on TG4 & BBC NI.

The series should be character driven with strong storylines, a contemporary setting consisting of a realistic situation where Irish would be used. The series should be aimed at as wide an audience as possible. Existing scripts or adaptations of previously written bodies of work will be considered as well as new ideas. If applicants are submitting a new idea, at this stage they would only require 1-2 pages of an outline, however if the idea has already been developed with a character bible etc. applicants are asked to submit this also.

The production would be supported by the broadcasters and the ILBF and applicants would be advised to seek funding from other bodies including the BAI.

Production companies with suitable experience in drama production - experience in production of Irish language and/or low budget drama especially welcome – and should forward submissions to Ceara Uí Mhuirí at the ILBF.

Applicants are asked to include both hard and electronic copies of their applications and a brief synopsis of the proposed series including the following details:

  • Evidence of broadcaster commitment
  • Development funding application form
  • Proposed production schedule
  • Proposed estimated production budget
  • The setting
  • Character outlines for main characters
  • Style of storytelling
  • Proposed cast and crew
  • Details of company’s previous experience in drama production
  • Proposed production model

Decisions on funding for drama development will be in an ILBF Drama Development funding round due to take place mid June and decisions will be announced shortly after.

All development funding application forms are available on the Northern Ireland Screen website.
