Tom Vaughan Lawlor to star alongside Bryan Cranston in ‘The Infiltrator’, Diarmuid Murtagh set for action-thriller ‘The Lake’ and Ciaran Hinds confirmed for season three of ‘Shetland’

Tom Vaughan Lawlor lands role in ‘The Infiltrator’

Tom Vaughan Lawlor is to star alongside Bryan Cranston in ‘The Infiltrator’, a film about an undercover US agent who embeds himself with Pablo Escobar's drugs cartel.

Vaughan Lawlor has previously won acclaim and two IFTA Awards for his role as gang boss Nidge in the ‘Love/Hate’. He has also starred in the Charlie Haughey biopic ‘Charlie’ which aired earlier this year and also has a role in Jim Sheridan’s ‘The Secret Scripture’ which is due for release later this year.

In the film, which will be directed by Brad Furman and which will also star Diane Kruger, Cranston will play undercover agent Robert Mazur while Vaughan Lawlor will play Steve Cook, Mazur’s supervisor.

The film is slated for a 2016 release, and shooting is believed to be taking place in London, Paris and Florida.

Diarmuid Murtagh cast in action-thriller ‘The Lake’

County Cavan actor Diarmuid Murtagh has been cast in the action-thriller film ‘The Lake’, which will be directed by ‘Taken’ helmer Luc Besson.

Murtagh has previously starred in big budget films such as ‘Monuments Men’ and ‘Dracula Untold’, as well as starring in television shows ‘Sons of Liberty’ and Vikings’, which is shot in Ireland. He has also previously worked on the mini-series ‘Quirke’ alongside Gabriel Byrne and Aisling Franciosi.

In ‘The Lake’ he will star alongside recent Oscar winner JK Simmons and Charlie Bewey. The story of the film focuses on a group of Navy SEALs who attempt to solve an age-old mystery involving a treasure underneath a lake in war-torn Serbia.

Murtagh’s role is described as one of the four leads in the film.

Ciaran Hinds confirmed for season three of ‘Shetland’

Northern Irish actor Ciaran Hinds has been confirmed for season three of the hit BBC Scotland crime drama ‘Shetland’.

‘The Fall’ actress Archie Punjabi has also recently been confirmed for the show.

Made by ITV Studios for BBC Scotland, ‘Shetland’ first aired as a two-part drama in 2013 and was expanded to six episodes for its second season which ran last year. Returning star Douglas Henshall plays detective Jimmy Perez as he investigates murders on the eponymous Scottish archipelago. Other returning cast includes Alison O’Donnell, Steven Robertson, Julie Graham and Mark Bonnar.

Hinds is well known to audiences for his role as Mance Raydar in the HBO show ‘Game of Thrones’, which is shot in Northern Ireland. He has also starred in ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’, ‘The Sea’, ‘The Shore’ and ‘The Woman In Black’ and is also set to star in the upcoming blockbuster ‘Hitman: Agent 47’ alongside Zachary Quinto.
