Marc Ivan O’Gorman follows Fergal O’Hanlon, Marian Quinn and Fiona Daly in delivering modules in DKIT
Theatre and Film Writer/Director Marc-Ivan O'Gorman is the latest Industry Professional to deliver an intensive module in the Creative Media Section in DKIT.

Fresh from teaching in the New York Film Academy (To learn about the New York Film Academy in LA click here) in LA, Marc-Ivan started working with final year students on the BA in Performing Arts in early February 2015 on a module that mirrors a real-world acting experience, whereby students work full-time with a director over a period of 5 weeks in order to put on a professional performance in the final week.

The resulting performance was 'Mouths Making Water', adapted and directed from James Joyce's 'Finnegans Wake', which was performed by the students over three nights in early March in the MacAnna Theatre on the DKIT campus. The production consisted of compelling scenes and dreamlike images from the book - which in Joyce's own words, attempts to "reconstruct the nocturnal life" and to "experiment in interpreting 'the dark night of the soul'.

Marc-Ivan O'Gorman is an award-winning filmmaker, theatre director and composer who has recently returned from teaching at the New York Film Academy in LA. He is also the founder and director of The Irish Film Festival of India, Taylorfest & Cleverality Productions. He works as a consultant and freelance producer for various broadcasters around the world including RTE, TV3, Channel 6 in Ireland and Aaj Tak and Headlines Today in India. He has worked in a range capacities on several popular TV series including, ‘The Apprentice’, ‘Access Hollywood’ and ‘You're-a-Star’.

In addition, industry professionals Fergal O’Hanlon (‘Yu Ming is Ainm Dom’, ‘Paddywhackery’), Marian Quinn (‘32A’) and Fiona Daly (‘In the Name of the Father’, ‘About Adam’) have just completed delivering intensive modules in their areas of expertise – Cinematography, Direction and Production Design respectively – to students on the BA and BA (Honours) in Video and Film Production.

IFTA-nominee cinematographer Fergal O’Hanlon completed a three-week intensive cinematography module with third year students on the BA in Video & Film Production as they prepare to shoot the final films for their course. For the period, students on the course immerse themselves in both the theoretical and the practical world of the cinematographer whilst taking a break from all other modules.

Meanwhile, Film Director Marian Quinn delivered a two-week intensive Directing module to fourth year students studying Video and Film Production and Production Designer and Art Director Fiona Daly, who has been working in the film industry for over twenty years, also delivered an intensive Production Design module to the fourth years.

Access to industry professionals has been a core feature of all of the programmes in Creative Media in DKIT since their inception. Students have the opportunity to practice and learn in small groups in an intimate setting in the facilities of the recently renovated Carroll building on the DKIT campus. It is equipped with a full HD TV Studio, a HD screening room with Dolby Surround Sound, editing labs and suites, and more (see https://www.dkit.ie/creative-media/resources-facilities for more details).
