Ahead of its’ release on Friday, 6th February, IFTN takes a look back at accolades received by Terry McMahon’s second feature ‘Patrick’s Day’.
Since premiering at SXSW in March last year (Terry’s first film ‘Charlie Casanova’ was the first non-US film to be programmed at the festival in 2011), ‘Patrick’s Day’ went on to win a host of awards including the Audience Awards at the Galway Film Fleadh and Cork Film Festival, The Maverick Award for Best Narrative Feature, Best Cinematography, and Best Editing at the Woodstock Film Festival, the Screen Directors’ Guild of Ireland Finders Series Award, and Best Actor and Best Screenplay at the Hell’s Half Mile Film and Music Festival in Michigan.
Lead actor Moe Dunford has also received much acclaim for his lead performance as the mentally-ill Patrick and he will receive a Shooting Star Award at the Berlin International Film Festival on February 7th.
The Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) screened the film for its Members screening series, and hosted a post-screening Q&A with Terry, Moe Dunford, Kerry Fox and producer Tim Palmer with psychiatrist Professor Ivor Browne, DOP Michael Lavelle, producer Rachel Lysaght, singer/songwriter (and soundtrack provider) Damien Dempsey, Emer Reynolds and many other members of the crew in attendance.
IFTA’s Chief Executive Áine Moriarty said, ‘Terry’s film brings you right up close and personal with the subject of mental health, with incredible performances and superb cinematography – this film connects and delivers on so many levels.’
