Jim Sheridan’s The Secret Scripture begins shooting in Ireland

Ferndale Films has announced that principal photography on Jim Sheridan’s film adaptation of ‘The Secret Scripture’ has begun in Ireland and is due to wrap on 6th March.

The film, which leads a star-studded cast including Academy Award nominee Rooney Mara, Vanessa Redgrave, Eric Bana, Theo James and homegrown stars Jack Reynor,Tom Vaughan Lawlor and Aidan Turner will shoot on location in Wicklow, Dublin, Kilkenny and Sligo over 8 weeks.

Adapted from Sebastian Barry’s Booker Prize shortlisted 2008 novel of the same name, the script was written by Sheridan and the late Johnny Ferguson. The Secret Scripture tells the story of a one-hundred year old women who recounts the diary of her extended stay at a mental hospital.

The film is produced by Noel Pearson and exec produced by Gavin Poolman, Michael Robinson and Andrea Scarso. Others working on the film include Casting from Frank Moiselle, DOP Mikhail Krichman (whose most recent film Leviathan this week collected the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film), Costume Designer Joan Bergin (The Tudors, Vikings) and Production designer Derek Wallace (Charlie, Good Vibrations).

The film is expected to be released late this year.
