Christmas/New Year Edition: Andie McCaffrey Byrne talks to IFTN
19 Dec 2012 : Paul Byrne
In the midst of the holiday season and looking back on the year gone by, IFTN interviews actress Andie McCaffrey Byrne, who has had a busy year starring in films suxch as 'Saol' and 'A Day Like Today'.

IFTN: What's the Christmas movie that gets you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside?

Andie McCaffrey Byrne:‘Gotta be Santa Claus The Movie with Dudley Moore and John Lithgow. We had the readalong tape and my Dad would put it on every year as the decorations went up that's when you knew it was xmas. Now you can't even find a tape deck!’

Besides your own incredible work, what was the highlight of 2014 for you? Firstly, your international Film Of The Year?

‘I gotta say I loved ‘Interstellar’ - I was totally in the wormhole, man. I just love Jessica Chastain's stuff. Although next on my list is ‘Nightcrawler’, which may wipe the floor with aforementioned movie.’

Secondly, do you have an Irish Film of the Year 2014?

‘I'm going to say Frank Berry's ‘I Used To LIve Here’. I haven't seen it yet but anybody who has tells me it’s a beautiful film - and all filmed around Tallaght too, so, sure you'd have to!

And your 2014 TV fix...?

‘Ray Donovan’, I think, was just amazing. Oh, and ‘Peaky Blinders’ I loved, and obviously, I think ‘Love/Hate’ was unreal this season. I forgot ‘Game Of Thrones’ and ‘The Fall’ ....how many can I pick did you say? I need to get out more!’

Of course, not every single film or TV show that hits our screens can be fab agus groovy - what's the 2014 work that disappointed you right down to your cotton socks?

‘Well, I'm on episode 3 of the new ‘Homeland’, and so far it's totally not doing it for me. Bring back Brody, I say! Ooh, spoiler alert!’

Besides the new all-conquering Star Wars outing next year, what are you most looking forward to in 2015?

Gotta be ‘Jurassic World’. I mean, I remember the first one (obviously I was no more than a baby!), but was blown away by it first time round. So, excited about that.
