Irish actors Saoirse Ronan (‘Brooklyn’, ‘Byzantium’) and Corey McKinley have both been nominated in the Young Performer of the Year category at the 35th London Critics’ Circle Film Awards.
The awards, which are an annual event hosted by The Critics’ Circle, were voted on by 140 of the UK's leading print, online and broadcast film critics.
Saoirse Ronan has been nominated for her role as Agatha, love interest of the main character in the critically acclaimed Wes Anderson film ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’, a role which also earned her a nomination as part of best cast ensemble at this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Saoirse has also recently seen two movies that she has starred in – ‘Brooklyn’ and ‘Stockholm Pennsylvania’ – being selected to screen at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.
Corey McKinley is nominated for his acclaimed debut role in the Belfast-set thriller ‘71’. Aged just 11 when ‘71’ was shot, McKinley plays Billy, a young Loyalist supporter who takes a lost and frightened British rookie soldier (Jack O’Connell) under his wing during a riot in Belfast. ’71’ also received a nomination in the category of Breakthrough British Filmmaker for its director Yann Demange.
The winners of the 35th London Critics Circle Film Awards will be announced at a ceremony on Sunday 18 January 2015 at The May Fair Hotel in London.
