‘Stalker’, Mark O’Connor’s third feature after the highly acclaimed films ‘Between the Canals’ and ‘King of the Travellers’, has been released on DVD this week. The film is a psychological thriller which sees a homeless man, called Oliver, befriend a disaffected teenager named Tommy, whose mother is a drug addict and whose uncle abuses him.
The script was penned by director Mark O’Connor and actor John Connors, who is currently making big waves at the moment as the traveller Patrick in RTÉ series ‘Love/Hate’. Connors leads the cast, which also includes ‘Love/Hate’ stars Peter Coonan (‘Fran’) and Mary Murray (‘’). Barry Keoghan, who plays Tommy in the film, can currently be seen in cinemas in ‘’71’, and is currently shooting ‘Mammal’ alongside Rachel Griffiths.
‘Stalker’ won runner-up prize for Best Irish Feature at the Galway Film Festival and first prize at the Underground Film Festival.
Director/writer Mark O’Connor stated, “It’s very exciting to finally release ‘Stalker’ on DVD across Ireland. This film is a reflection of the times we live in, where our political elite have stolen the rug from under our feet and made us walk on hot coals. Oliver’s revenge is a metaphor representing the destruction of falsity. It is a reactionary blow against the state and austerity, the clerical abuse and the bullies of this world.
“This is a story straight from the heart and myself, John Connors and the producer TJ O' Grady are all very excited that Irish audiences will now have an opportunity to see this film on DVD.”
‘Stalker’ will be released across Ireland on DVD in Tesco and Golden Discs, and it is also available online on Amazon. Additional features on the DVD will include a ‘making of’ documentary, interviews and the original fundit campaign video the cast and crew made.
