MIPCOM 2014, the world’s entertainment content market which gathers the entertainment industry’s leading players for four days of networking, conferences, exhibition, keynotes and screenings, is to take place in Cannes from 13th - 16th October.
MIPCOM have reported that over 13,500 participants from over 100 countries have registered for this year’s event with over 4,600 buyers and over 2,100 exhibiting companies trading in the 46 regional and national pavilions set up for the four day event.
The event will kick off with a welcome breakfast on Monday, 13th October before this year’s country of honour Mexico is showcased.
There will be in excess of 80 sessions and keynotes for MIPCOM participants to avail of, with Oscar nominated Documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock opening the Tuesday keynotes to discuss the future of original storytelling. Creative Entertainment icon Simon Cowell is to be honoured as the 2014 media personality of the year and will then deliver a subsequent keynote interview speaking about a career that has transformed popular culture in the 21st century through his wide-reaching TV and music enterprise. Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos is also scheduled to be a keynote speaker and will talk about strategy and European expansion while Oscar winning actor Cuba Gooding Junior and Emmy winning actor Lou Gossett Junior will be in attendance at a screening for the epic mini-series adaptation of ‘The Book of Negroes’.
Among the many networking events and producer pitches, highlights of this year’s event also include:
- Media Mastermind keynotes from noteworthy people such as James Murdoch (Co-Chief Operating Officer of 21st Century Fox) and Ynon Kreiz (CEO of Maker Studios)
- A Global Channel Distribution Day will be held on Monday with panels being held detailing a market overview, strategies for success and asking the question ‘what do platforms want’? amongst other points of interest
- A Film Commission Day will be held on Tuesday with panels assembling to give information on how to fund through new partnerships and how iconic locations lend power to storytelling amongst other talking points
- Sessions will be held zoning in on specific places such as Berlin, London, the Middle East, Africa and Poland and what they can offer the industry
- Keynotes on Digital Distribution will be held throughout the week discussing subjects like how to understand millennials and where to search for an audience
- 4K Screenings will be held every day, showcasing events such as the FIFA World Cup and asking what do buyers want in 4K?
- Dramatic Screenings will also be shown with films such as ‘The Librarian’ and ‘The Missing’

MIPJunior, the leading showcase for kid’s programming, will also be held on October 11th and 12th with MIPJunior reporting that 1,250 participants from 65 countries are slated to attend with 4,500 investors, 550 buyers and 760 companies registering for the event. Mexico will again be the country of honour at MIPJunior.

- A Digital Strategists Show and Tell
- Panels asking what do buyers want with an extensive look at parents and keeping up with connected kids
- MIPJunior world premiere TV screening of ‘Thunderbirds Are Go’
- A publishers show and tell and a session detailing creative collaboration from book to screen
- Keynotes to be delivered from noteworthy people such as Kim Towner of Peanuts Worldwide and Hicks Russell, Nickelodeon’s President of Content Development and Production
