Element Pictures have acquired film and TV rights to Laird Hunt’s critically acclaimed novel ‘Neverhome’, with long-time Element collaborator Lenny Abrahamson set to direct and Ed Guiney producing.
‘Neverhome’ tells the story of a woman that leaves her husband during the American Civil War and dons a uniform of a union soldier, becoming a traitor to the American cause in the process.
The book is not due to be published in the UK until 2015 but the recent US release of the book has drawn universal praise from publications such as The New York Times, USA Today and O Magazine.
Author Laird Hunt, a two-time finalist for the PEN Center USA Award in Fiction, had this to say after the announcement: ‘I couldn't be more thrilled or honoured that ‘Neverhome’ is in the hands of Lenny Abrahamson and Ed Guiney whose work I so emphatically admire.
Director Lenny Abrahamson said of ‘Neverhome’: ‘Laird has written a truly amazing novel and created in Ash a character so vivid and original. I could not be more excited about making this film”. Producer Ed Guiney of Element Pictures said: ‘We are so excited to be involved with Hunt’s beguiling novel and look forward to taking it to the big screen.’
Abrahamson is currently in pre-production in Canada working on ‘Room’ based on the bestselling novel by Emma Donoghue, who also penned the screenplay, with Ed Guiney set to produce again.
