‘The Guarantee’ is to hit Irish cinemas on 30th October with a special live event screening hosted by Today FM’s Matt Cooper. This screening will allow cinema audiences across the nation to watch the movie and subsequently take part in an interactive panel discussion and Q and A session. The event will be the first of its kind in Ireland.
Based on Colin Murphy’s stage play ‘Guaranteed!’ for the Fishamble:New Plays company, ‘The Guarantee’ follows developments from the Celtic Tiger era in Ireland to the beginning of the economic recession and charts one of the most significant political decisions in modern Irish history-when the Irish government decided to guarantee the entire domestic banking system in what economists predict will be the most expensive bank rescue in history.
Directed by Ian Power (‘The Runway’), the film stars Peter Coonan as Anglo-Irish Bank Chief Executive David Drumm and Gary Lydon as former Taoiseach Brian Cowen. David Murray, Sean Fitzpatrick and Orla Fitzgerald also feature, playing Brian Lenihan, Sean Fitzpatrick and Kate Walsh respectively. The editor is Vinnie Beirne based in Windmill Lane while the score is by composer Stefan French.
Speaking about the release, Patrick O’ Neill, of Wildcard Distribution said, ‘Wildcard is delighted to be bringing this feature and live cinema event to cinemas across Ireland. That night in 2008 was a defining moment in Irish History and its impact is still relevant today. We’re very excited to be incorporating a live event and interactive element to the evening, something that’s never been done before in Ireland.’
‘The Guarantee’ was produced by John Kelleher Media in association with the BAI, the Irish Film Board and TV3. The cinema release will be followed by a television broadcast on TV3 and a DVD release later this year.
This is the first cinematic feature film that TV3 has produced with the film shot in TV3’s Sony HD Studios. Wildcard Distribution has worldwide distribution rights to the film.
