Broadcasting Authority of Ireland Culture Night 2014
15 Sep 2014 : Deirdre Molumby
Culture Night 2014 will see a vast and exciting range of events take place in Dublin and across 34 counties, regions and cities in Ireland this Friday, 19th September 2014. For one night only the city’s museums, galleries, churches, historic houses, artists’ studios, cultural centre and more, will open their doors from 5pm-11pm for a free night of entertainment, discovery and adventure.

This year, the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland will host a solar-powered mobile cinema – the Sol Cinema – to offer visitors to the BAI’s offices a special cinematic experience on Culture Night. This is the second year in a row that the BAI building at 2-5 Warrington Place, Dublin 2 will be open to visitors of the event between 5pm and 11pm.

Besides the Sol Cinema, which will be showing film and TV projects funded by the BAI through its Sound & Vision II Scheme, there will also be a ‘listening lounge’ in which visitors will be able to sit back and listen to a selection of BAI funded radio programmes.

Speaking about the event Michael O’Keeffe, CEO of the BAI said: “This is the second year that the BAI has participated in Culture Night. Last year, we were delighted to welcome over 100 visitors through our doors and we hope to build on that number this year.

“Since its inception, the Broadcasting Funding Scheme – Sound & Vision II has funded a significant amount of high-quality TV, film and radio programmes. Culture Night provides the BAI with an opportunity to showcase a variety of those programmes to the public and celebrate the success of the scheme. Having a listening lounge and the Sol Cinema on site will make it an evening to remember.”

No admission to the building will be charged and there is no need to obtain a ticket in advance. Further information about the event is available from the www.bai.ie or by calling 01-6441200.
