Every year, the European Film Academy’s People’s Choice Award invites the general public across Europe to elect their favourite European film. Voting has opened for this year’s Award, which includes Stephen Frears’ ‘Philomena’
Winners in the past have included films Pedro Almodóvar’s ‘Volver’, Roberto Benigni’s ‘La vita Bella’, Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s ‘Amelie’, Fatih Akin’s ‘Head-On’, and Danny Boyle’s ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. In 2013, the EFA People's Choice Award went to ‘The Gilded Cage’ by Ruben Alves.
Shortlisted titles this year are ‘Beauty and the Beast’ (Christophe Gans), ‘Ida’ (Pawel Pawlikowski), ‘Nymphomaniac’ (Lars von Trier), Philomena (Stephen Frears), The 100 Year Old Man who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared (Felix Herngren), Two Days, One Night (Jean-Pierre & Luc Dardenne).
