Variety has announced its annual list of 10 Actors to Watch, an honor the publication has been bestowing since 1998. Dubliner Eve Hewson is among the young stars on Variety's ‘10 Actors to Watch for 2014’ list.
Hewson stars in ‘The Knick’, an acclaimed Cinemax series that stars Clive Owen and is directed by Steven Soderbergh. She is also set to begin filming Steven Spielberg's as-yet-untitled Cold War thriller with Tom Hanks and Amy Ryan next month. The film is based on the true story of CIA attorney James Donovan (Hanks) who was sent to negotiate the release of an American U-2 pilot after he was shot down over Soviet airspace. Other credits of Hewson’s include ‘This Must Be the Place’, ‘The 27 Club’, ‘Enough Said’ and ‘Blood Ties’.
The other actors on Variety's list are: Kaitlyn Dever (‘Short Term 12’), Dakota Johnson (the upcoming ‘50 Shades of Grey’), Caleb Landry Jones (‘Queen and Country’, ‘Byzantium’), Lola Kirke (star of upcoming ‘Gone Girl’), Zoe Kravitz (‘X-Men: First Class’, ‘Divergent’), Jack O'Connell (‘Starred Up’, ‘’71’), Tye Sheridan (‘Mud’, ‘Tree of Life’), Jenny Slate (‘Obvious Child’) and Miles Teller (‘The Spectacular Now’, ‘Divergent’).
The 2014 honourees will feature in the October 7 issue of Variety and for the third year, several of the honorees will participate in Variety Ten to Watch activities at the Hamptons Film Festival, which runs October 9-13.
Previous honourees include future Oscar-winners and nominees such as Adrien Brody, Patricia Clarkson, Taraji P. Henson, Samantha Morton, Viola Davis, Melissa Leo, Lupita Nyong'o, Octavia Spencer and Michael Shannon. Last year’s list included Brie Larson (‘Short Term 12’, the upcoming ‘Room’, directed by Lenny Abrahamson) Dane DeHaan (‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’, ‘Chronicle’), David Oyelowo (‘Lee Daniels’ The Butler’, ‘Jack Reacher’) and Scott Haze (‘Child of God’).
