18 Aug 2014 : Deirdre Molumby
Winner of the Special Grand Jury Prize at the Montreal World Film Festival and Founders Award in Chicago, ‘AThousand Times Good Night’ has now added to its spoils by taking away three prizes at the Amanda Awards in Haugesund, Norway.

The film stars French actress Juliette Binoche as Rebecca, one of the world’s top war photographers. On assignment while photographing afemale suicide bomber in Kabul, she gets too near and is badly hurt. Her husband and daughters can no longer bear the thought of her dying while at work. She is given an ultimatum: her work, or her family life.

Norwegian director Erik Poppe’s ‘A Thousand Times Good Night’ took home Best Norwegian Feature at the Amanda Awards. The drama also won the Norwegian national film awards for Best Cinematography (John Christian Rosenlund) and Best Score (Armand Amar).

Filmed on location for seven weeks in Dublin, Morocco and Kabul, ‘A ThousandTimes Good Night’ was co-produced by Jackie Larkin and Lesley McKimm in Newgrange Pictures as well as Norwegian-based Finn Gjerdrum and Stein Kave for Paradox.

Larkin from Newgrange Pictures said: “The director Eric made the decision to move filming to Ireland and be true to the story by making the film through the English language. The challenge for us, along with the locations manager Dermot Cleary, was to find great areas to highlight the stark difference between the tranquillity of Ireland and the war torn regions of Afghanistan.”

Written by Harald Rosenlow Eeg, the film also stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (‘Oblivion’), Maria Doyle Kennedy (‘The Commitments’), Larry Mullen Jr. (‘Mission Impossible’), Mads Ousdal (‘Jackpot’), Chloe Annett (‘Casualty’), and Irish actress’ Lauryn Canny (‘Amber’) and Adrianna Cramer Curtis.
