Bord Scannán na hÉireann/ the Irish Film Board (IFB) is pleased to announce that the latest round of successful Frameworks teams have been selected.

Now in its 19th year this scheme is dedicated to the production of animated films. The Frameworks scheme has been successful year after year in stimulating ground breaking and innovative work from Irish animators. The scheme was primarily established to develop new talent and skills in the field of animation and its continued success in encouraging original and new work from Irish animators can be seen in the awards which the successful projects continuously garner on an international stage.

Recent awards bestowed on Frameworks projects include ‘Deadly’, directed by Aidan McAteer which won the Don Quijote award for animation in a short film at this year's Galway Film Fleadh. ‘The Missing Scarf’, directed by Eoin Duffy which has won numerous awards in the past year including the Best Animation Award at both the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival and the Galway Film Fleadh. The short narrated by George Takei was longlisted for the Academy Awards 2014 in the best Animated Short Film category.

‘Coda’, directed by Alan Holly has also done extremely well on the international festival circuit picking up the Best Animated Short Film at this year's South by Southwest festival as well as winning the Most Creative Short at the Edinburgh Short Film Festival and the Audience Choice Award at the Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival in Korea (see more festival wins for the short here).

The Frameworks scheme is funded by the IFB, RTÉ and the Arts Council.

This year's successful projects are:

  • ‘An Gadhar Dubh’ to be produced by Louise Ni Chonchair for Paper Panther and written and directed by Padraig Fagan
  • ‘City of Roses’ to be produced by Jackie Leonard for Kavaleer Productions and written and directed by Andrew Kavanagh
  • ‘The Great Fall’ to be produced by Michael Algar for Zink Films, written by Ben Cleary and directed by Gary O'Neill

These much anticipated short films will premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh in 2015.
