Rough Rider, a new Irish documentary produced with the support of the Irish Film Board, follows contentious journalist and cycling whistleblower, Paul Kimmage, as he searches for answers to difficult questions about doping in the world of professional cycling. The film will be broadcast tonight on RTE One to correspond with the end of the Tour de France.
Directed by Adrian McCarthy and filmed over two years, this documentary feature film brings audiences into the world of professional cycling. Told against the backdrop of the fall of Lance Armstrong and the 2013 Tour de France, the film follows former professional cyclist turned journalist, author and anti-doping advocate Paul Kimmage on a journey of loss and redemption.
Martha O'Neill from Wildfire Films, who produced the feature with Tony Whelan of Ergo Films, told IFTN, "it has been an incredible journey, following a roller coaster couple of years in the life of Paul Kimmage. We couldn’t be happier with how the film has turned out, and we are hopeful that the film will be seen by a huge audience tonight."
‘Rough Rider’ is a Wildfire Films/Ergo Films production produced in association with RTÉ and the Irish Film Board. It is directed by Adrian McCarthy and produced by Martha O’Neill and Tony Whelan. Cinematography was by Ronan Fox and Richard Kendrick, and Mick Mahon was editor. Michael Fleming composed for the documentary.
‘Rough Rider’ will be broadcast on RTE ONE tonight (28th July) at 21.30.
